Project Details
The project consists of a Concept Development Study aimed at improving the interchange at Bordentown Avenue, Burlew Place, and Eugene Boulevard. Currently, the unsignalized intersections experience conflicting traffic patterns, poor lighting, and limited visibility under the Route 9 Bridge. From 2014 to 2016, over 230 crashes were reported in the vicinity, resulting in an NJDOT safety score of 10 out of 10 (with 10 being the worst). While Bordentown Avenue (CR 615) continues to carry high traffic volumes, the combination of unsignalized intersections, limited visibility, and high crash rates presents significant safety concerns.
The project seeks to address these operational and safety deficiencies to improve travel through the interchange. The Preferred Preliminary Alternative (PPA) proposes:
A roundabout at Bordentown Avenue / Route 9 Southbound ramps / Kenneth Avenue / Burlew Place
Realignment of Bordentwon Avenue west of the roundabout
A roundabout at Bordentown Avenue / Route 9 Northbound ramps / Eugene Boulevard
Realignment of Eugene Boulevard into the proposed roundabout
A Route 9 Southbound slip ramp with acceleration and deceleration lanes
Upgraded guiderails along Route 9
This PPA enhances safety, extends the service life of infrastructure, maintains traffic operations during construction, and minimizes overall impacts to the traveling public
